Elsie I. (Fundora) Fernandez

Elsie I. (Fundora) Fernandez, a longtime resident of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on February 27, 2017. She was 93 years old.

Born in Cuba, Elsie came to the United States in 1961 with her beloved husband, Jose, and dedicated her life to her family.  She was an avid candlepin bowler, involved in leagues in the old bowling alley on Park St. and then the bowling alley on Centre St. until it’s closing.  Elsie loved dogs and was rarely far from one of her cherished four-legged pals.  She was a fantastic cook who made excellent desserts, especially flan. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with Jose, to beaches anywhere from Cuba to Cape Cod, and especially enjoying trips to Miami because it reminded them of Cuba.  What she cherished most in her life was spending time with her family. 

Elsie was the dear and devoted wife of the late Jose M. Fernandez.  Loving mother of Joseph Fernandez and his wife Lauretta of Clearwater, FL and Alicia Moran and her husband Paul of West Roxbury.  Beloved grandmother, “Ela” of Bonnie Carey and her husband Tommy and James Moran and his girlfriend Gianna Flamia.  Cherished great-grandmother of Dylan and Daisy. Dear sister of the late Henry Fundora.  Dear sister-in-law of Alicia Garcia of Charlestown.  She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

Elsie’s Funeral will be from the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home, 8 Spring St. (at the corner of Centre St.) WEST ROXBURY, Friday March 3, 2017 at 9 a.m.  Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John Chrysostom Church at 10 a.m.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday 4-8 p.m.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Elsie’s interment will be private.
