My heart aches for Ms. Edna and the Burke family to lose in death your precious loved one, Mr. Tom. Words are so limited that can give comfort, so I would like to share with you beautiful scripture where our heavenly Father, Jehovah God invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. Psalm 34:18
None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, but we are all guaranteed a resurrection.
Our savior, Jesus, promises us at: John 6: 40; "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him on the last day".
And again at: John 5: 28; "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out..."
John 11:23-25; "Jesus said to her: "I am the resurrection and the life." The one who exercises faith in me, even tho he dies, will come to life."
I pray that Jesus's promise to reunite us with our loved ones on resurrection day will carry you through the difficult days ahead and gradually replace your tears of grief with tears of joy as you reflect on your precious memories of happier times with Mr. Tom. Deacon Tom was a regular and beloved Communicant of our Ordinariate community from the time we were given our second home in the Church, in Stoneham, in July 2014: he incorporated Saint JP II's image of the two lungs of the Church within our community, bringing his deep love and knowledge of the Melkite liturgy into our life, while also partaking of our own "mutual enrichment" of elements of the Spirit's working, belonging to the Church, but which — lapsed or failing within its visible walls — had been preserved outside them. We were blessed to have Deacon Tom among us for several years, both in our liturgical life and all the more so in our life of fellowship in Christ. I know he will be praying for both the Eastern Church — which he loved, and of which he was an adopted son — as well as the Western Church, of which he was a son by birth, and — in his last days — he joined himself to the newest branch, made up for the especial purpose of welcoming home those who had separated themselves from Union with the See of Peter. Pray for us, Deacon Thomas, now that you are closer to the Throne of Grace!
