Camille F. Sarrouf Sr., 85, of Belmont, husband of Joyce Rahal Sarrouf, died Tuesday September 4, 2018 with his family at his side after a 2 month long battle with cancer.

Camille Francis Sarrouf Sr. was born April 23, 1933, in North Adams, son of Toufic Kahlil and Leza Sarrouf. He attended Drury High School in North Adams, MA and Wilbraham & Monson Academy before attending Bowdoin College.

Following graduation from Bowdoin in 1955, Mr. Sarrouf served as a Captain - U.S. Army as an artillery officer before attending the University of Texas Law School, from which he graduated in 1960.

He was admitted to practice before state and federal courts in Texas, Vermont, and Massachusetts as well as the United States Supreme Court. He was a prominent civil litigator in Boston for more than 56 years, working alongside well known names such as Sisson, Murray, Daly, Mills, Teague, Tarricone, Flemming, Corso, Gibson and Rosenfeld, most prominently on Commercial Wharf.

He was an adjunct professor at New England School of Law for 19 years, teaching trial preparation and techniques receiving an Honorary Doctorate in 1980.

His extensive legal appointments and honors included: President of the Massachusetts Bar Association, President the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and as a Trustee, Fellow and Regent of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He also served as: Chairman - Magistrate-Review Committee for U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts; Member – Massachusetts Commission on Judicial Conduct; and Member - Commonwealth’s Judicial Nominating Commission.

Mr. Sarrouf’s philanthropic work was highlighted by his 31 years, including serving as Chair or Vice Chair for 14, on the Boards of Directors & Governors of ALSAC and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN. Mr. Sarrouf most recently served as Chair of the Board of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences where he was recently honored with the school’s Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters.

He served on the board of the Khalil Gibran Foundation and for 52 years as the pro bono General Counsel of the Diocese of Newton for the Melkite Catholics of the United States, Inc. He was a 2001 recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, a recipient of the Papal Insigne-Gold Medal from Pope Paul VI and the Cross of Jerusalem from Patriarch Maximos V. Hakim.

He was a fan and longtime season ticket holder of the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics and an avid golfer and long-standing member of the Oakley Country Club.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Mr. Sarrouf is survived by three sons: Camille F. Sarrouf, Jr. and his wife, Sherri, of North Andover, Thomas K. Sarrouf and his wife, Daneil, of Worcester, and John R. Sarrouf and his wife, Dawn, of Gloucester; a daughter, Leza M. Sarrouf and her husband, Marc Guillemette, of Watertown; and six grandchildren (Stephen, Elizabeth, Thomas, Jr., Sarah, Elijah and Esme).

Please note: No funeral services will be held at the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home.  All services will be held at Our Lady of the Annunciation Melkite Catholic Cathedral, 7 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury. 

Visiting hours will take place between the hours of 3:00-8:00 pm. on Monday September 10, 2018 at Our Lady of the Annunciation Melkite Catholic Cathedral, 7 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury. The Funeral Service will take place at the Cathedral on Tuesday September 11, 2018 at 11:00 am. Burial will be private. 

The Sarrouf family respectfully requests no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
