Aileen (Rose) deVergie-Zmuran of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully at her home on June 19, 2025. She was 92 years old.
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Aileen attended Bennington College in Vermont before moving to Florida and eventually settling in West Roxbury.
She was devoted to the performing arts. A talented musician, she played several instruments, including the bassoon and the French horn. Aileen performed for several years in chamber groups in Sarasota, Florida. Later, she learned ballroom dancing and competed and in various tournaments, winning many of them.
Aileen loved nature and animals - birds, parrots and especially dogs, owning many beloved Doberman Pinschers over the last 8 decades. Now, all are reunited in heaven, so our sorrow can be a little softer knowing that she is in a happy place greeted and surrounded by a lot of love, by a lot of wagging tails. She was also a member of many nonprofit environmental organizations dedicated to protecting nature.
Aileen was a very kind, gentle, loving, compassionate and generous person. She strongly supported artists and friends in various fields and disciplines and encouraged them to pursue their own goals and dreams.
Aileen possessed that unique strengths of quiet achievers who excel in their endeavors without seeking attention or recognition. And she always stayed true to these core values and lived by them all her life.
Aileen was a truly precious person with a pure, authentic, and beautiful soul.
Aileen was the dear and devoted beloved wife of Antonin (Tony) Zmuran. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Potter, her daughter Karin Shaw, 2 grandchildren, 6 nieces and nephews and nine grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Aileen’s Funeral Services will be private.
