Barbara Varteresian, of Westwood, passed away peacefully on April 4th, 2026. She was 83 years old.

Barbara was a devoted wife and a beloved member of a wide and loving community of family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Russell Varteresian, whose life was deeply intertwined with hers, as well as a multitude of relatives, dear friends, neighbors, and cousins who were touched by her warmth and presence.

Barbara began her working life in education as a teacher at a junior college, where she shared her knowledge and kindness with her students. Beyond her professional life, she had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. She was known for organizing gatherings, nurturing friendships, and creating spaces where people felt welcomed and connected.

She loved to read, and was an endlessly positive and life-loving person. More than anything, Barbara was known for her caring spirit and kind heart. She approached life with warmth, generosity, and a genuine interest in others. She was, simply, a friend to all.

Barbara’s presence will be deeply missed, but the love and connections she fostered will continue to live on in all who knew her.

Barbara's Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday April 8, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church 157 Washington St. Westwood. Visitation Wednesday from 9:30 a.m to 11:00 a.m. at the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home 8 Spring St. (at the corner of Centre St.) West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. 

I lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Barbara will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury.
