Carol A. (Salhaney) Mattar of Franklin, formerly of Dedham, passed away on October 16, 2025. She was 88 years old.
Carol was born in Somerville and was raised in Lexington and Arlington. After graduating from Arlington High School, she attended LaSalle Junior College. She met the love of her life, George, and they were married in 1957. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage before his passing in 1994. Carol and George raised their family in Dedham, and when their 6 children were older, she went to work for Dedham Public Schools as an administrative assistant. She worked there for nearly 40 years, before retiring in 2010. Carol enjoyed gardening and relaxing with her best friend and lapdog, Molly. Above all else, Carol was happiest surrounded by her family, especially during holidays and her open-house at Christmastime.
Carol was the dear and devoted wife of the late George “Radar” Mattar. Loving mother of Pamela Neill of Franklin, Paula Spada and her husband John of Franklin, Cheryl Mattar of Franklin, Michael Mattar and his wife Julie of Billerica, Karen Silvia and her husband Steve of Wareham, and Lisa Arena and her husband Patrick of Franklin. Cherished grandmother, “Tata,” of Jaclyn, Lori, Nicole, Alyssa, John Jr., Tabitha, Alec, Lexie, Vanessa, Zachary, Benjamin, and Sophie. Beloved great-grandmother, "Big Tata," of Lucas, Reagan, Ryder, Landon, Amelia, Oliver, and Ayla. Dear sister of the late Donald Salhaney.
Carol’s Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. John of Damascus 300 West St. Dedham. Visiting Hours in the Church Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
