Catharine Alice Lydon

Catharine A. Lydon of Norwood passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2024 after a long illness.  She is survived by her beloved son William Shibley of Los Angeles, her dear sister Martha of Bluffton, South Carolina, nieces Danette (Jonathan) Dyekma of Preston, CT and Tracy (Ron) Talley of Bluffton, South Carolina, Elizabeth of Bridgewater and Christina (David) Kimball of Bridgewater and nephews William (Ann Marie) of Bridgewater, James (Kathleen) Lydon of Plainville and Dean (Diana) Ferguson of Chesapeake, VA, and her former husband Richard Shibley of Boston.  She was predeceased by her brothers William of East Weymouth, MA and Peter of Narragansett, RI and Naples, FL.

Born in Cambridge, Cathy grew up in Mattapan and was graduated from Hyde Park High School.  After taking courses at the Massachusetts College of Art, she worked as a legal secretary and then as a staff assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Nuclear Engineering Department.  She also ran her own business doing technical illustrating for scientific and engineering periodicals.  After a break to raise her son Billy, Cathy’s bubbly and energetic personality led her to work as a restaurant hostess and retail associate until her retirement.

A memorial of life celebration is forthcoming.  Burial will be private.
