Dorothy Julia (Flannery) Mcdonald

Dorothy Julia (Flannery) McDonald of Raymond NH, formerly of Brighton, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 3, 2015, at age 91.

Born in 1923 in Saint Clair, PA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Nellie (Connors) Flannery.

After graduating in 1941 from Saint Clair High School she worked for the Department of the Interior in Washington, DC, where she met the love of her life, Capt. USMC Edward S. McDonald of Boston. Dorothy and Edward were married in 1945 in St. Clair, PA. After living in Colorado Springs for two years they settled in Brighton Massachusetts where they raised their four children. Dorothy was active in the Our lady of the Presentation Sodality Club, the Brighton Lodge of Elks Emblem Club and the Boys and Girls Scouts. Dorothy worked at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Brighton, MA for over twenty years until her retirement in 1988.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, attending Marine Corps reunions, wintering in Naples, Florida and spending time with her family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Edward S. McDonald Sr., daughter Patricia M. Lucey, sister Mary T. Ryan and brother Leo Flannery.

Dorothy is survived by three children, Robert K. McDonald and his wife Kathleen of Raymond. NH, Ellen M. Muller and her husband Joseph of Walpole, MA, Edward S. McDonald, Jr., of Boston and son in law Bernard Lucey of Concord, NH. Loving grandmother of Dennis, Brian and Kevin Lucey, Aimee Hayes, Maura, Jonathan and Patrick McDonald, Emily and Julia Muller, and Heather and Conor McDonald. Great grandmother of Joshua, Maeve, Senan and Reese Lucey.

A Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church in Chestnut Hill, MA on April 18, 2015 at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Chestnut Hill, MA.
