Ella J. "Ellie" (Severance) Tawa, of Rockland passed away peacefully on October 30, 2016. She was 91 years old.
Ellie grew up in Pembroke, New Hampshire and completed her education which included training as a nurse. While training as a nurse and missionary in Boston she met the love of her life, Tony. They settled in New Hampshire where her four sons were born, and later moved to Rockland, Massachusetts where her daughter was born and completed her family. Ellie was a devoted member of St. John of Damascus Church choir and a Girl Scout leader for a number of years. Ellie and Tony spent their retirement years traveling the United States and Canada. Ellie was a master at Sudoku and word puzzles as well as knitting, crocheting, and other craft hobbies. Her evenings were spent beating the contestants on Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Ellie was proud of the time she spent as a nurse, but what made her the most proud and happy was the time she spent with her family.
Ellie was the dear and devoted wife of the late Anthony "Tony" Tawa. Loving mother of Anthony Tawa Jr. and his wife Lorette of NH, James Tawa and his wife Mary Beth of MD, David Tawa and his wife Lynn of NY, Thomas Tawa and his wife Kathleen of Rockland, Laurie Bradley and her husband Christopher of Dedham. Sister of the late Leroy Severance and Ida Severance. Ellie is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
