George Sakey of Malden passed away unexpectedly on March 24, 2026. He was 75 years old.
George was the beloved father of George Sakey III of Malden. Dear brother of Cheryl Baker and her husband James of Billerica, Suzy Sakey of Florida, Louis Sakey and his wife Lynn of Woburn, and Richard Nahat and his wife Patsy of Florida. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
George, the oldest of his siblings, was born to the late John Sakey and Zakie Massabni Demers and grew up in Cambridge. He loved music and was always up for a night of dancing.
He started his career as a medical salesman, and later became a familiar face driving his cab, taking people to the airport and throughout the city. He enjoyed talking with passengers and getting to know them along the way.
He spent time as a dog walker and always had treats in his pocket at family events, quickly making friends with every dog he met. Holidays with his family were especially enjoyable to him, and he was known for bringing his signature chocolate cream pie for each occasion.
George was thoughtful and generous in so many ways. He was well known for being the first to send a birthday card, and for donating to different charities, giving from his own means rather than from abundance.
In the last several months of his life, George was cared for by his son. They spent meaningful time with one another, which they were both deeply grateful for.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
George's funeral services were held at the Church of St. John of Damascus in Dedham on March 31, 2026. George was laid to rest at Cambridge Cemetery.
