James H. "Jimmy" Pyke Sr.

James “Jimmy” Pyke Sr. RET BFD, of Roslindale, MA passed away suddenly on February 21, 2025. He was 81 years old.

James was born in Vanderbilt, Michigan to Henry and Belle Pyke, he had 12 siblings. James served in the United States Navy from 1960-1964 finishing his service in Boston where he met the love of his life Evelyn Pyke (Niles). Jim and Evie were married for 58 years before her passing in 2022. They were the parents of four, the late James H. Pyke Jr. and are survived by Thomas J. Pyke,Brian W. Pyke and Jeffrey M. Pyke. He was a loving grandfather to seven. In 1969 James joined the Boston Fire Department and served the city for 40 years. Many also knew Jimmy from Hatoff’s Gas Station in Jamaica Plain, where he worked for many years delivering home heating oil.

Jimmy was a bright soul who was loved and respected by many. He was a hard worker and dedicated friend, always going out of his way to help and support others. His dedication and love for family was unwavering and his presence will be deeply missed.
