John C. Sakakini, "Sak", passed away on November 5, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old.
John was the dear and devoted husband of 66 years to Johanna “Jo” (Hamwey) Sakakini. Beloved father of Andrea Bergeron and her husband Ken of Tewksbury, Donna Sakakini and her partner Rick Carmody of Haverhill, Michele Quinlan and her husband Michael of Billerica. Beloved grandfather of Mikayla and Miranda Quinlan; Alex, Scott, and Andrew Bergeron. John was the beloved brother of the late Albert Sakakini and Rose Sabbag. He is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
John grew up in Norfolk, VA and Brighton, MA where he attended Boston English High School. John earned his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University. He was proud to have served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army stationed in Alexandria, VA and Fort Polk, LA. John worked for many years as a mechanical engineer in elevator design with Payne Elevator. Together they raised their three daughters in Arlington, MA. After 54 years, they moved to Tewksbury, MA.
He enjoyed time spent gambling at the casino, harness racing, and watching the Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox. He enjoyed sitting on the deck in his chair basking in the sun. One of his hobbies was growing tomatoes and cucumbers in his garden. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and all of his granddogs and great granddogs.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of John's Life on Sunday November 16, 2025 from 12:00 until 3:00 PM at the Fairways at Woburn Country Club, 5 Country Club Rd., Woburn, Massachusetts 01801.
