Joseph (Jose) Carlos Perez

Professor Emeritus Jose Perez, passed away on April 21, 2020. He was 74 years old.

Prof. Perez taught Spanish at Stonehill College, in North Easton, MA, across three decades. He chaired the Foreign Languages department and inaugurated the study-abroad program in Zaragoza, his hometown in Spain. He very often would travel to visit his students, making sure they had everything they needed during their time in Zaragoza, take them to dinner, and show them everything that he found special about his city.

In 1995, he received the Hegarty Award for Excellence in Teaching. As one student noted, “He is the Zaragozan Mr. Miyagi—unsuspectingly powerful and talented,” a reference to the karate master in the Karate Kid movie.

He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to work with him and learn from him.

One final return to Zaragoza, following cremation, is planned for Prof. Perez.
