Joseph E. “Jo-Jo” Salami, aged 70, passed away peacefully with his wife Ginny by his side on the evening of Jan. 30, 2026 at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA.
Born in Boston, Jo-Jo was raised in the South End by his mother, aunt, grandfather, uncle and numerous relatives.
A true performer, Jo-Jo’s creative endeavors began as a drummer and vocalist. Later he studied dance at the Jeannette Neill Dance Studio and danced with Body Language Dancers and Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble among other dance troupes. He also was a member of the Screen Actors Guild with numerous roles as an “extra” in films including “The Departed.”
Earlier in his career, Jo-Jo worked for Salami’s Truck Center and Mack Trucks. After completing his studies in massage therapy, he became a successful and sought-after Muscular Therapist for 30 years in Brookline, MA. This work happily took him (and Ginny) to California, Hawaii and Canada.
For anyone who knew Jo-Jo, food was his passion. He loved cooking and, even more so, discovering new restaurants. He had hosted a TV show called Food New England and served as a chef and host for his own dinner events at the Arcade in Brookline and Strip-T’s Restaurant in Watertown.
Jo-Jo was a wonderful friend to those who were lucky enough to know him, always making an effort to stay in touch with the many friends he treasured, so much so that friends became like family!
Jo-Jo received excellent care from many healthcare organizations and professionals including Waltham Dialysis, Beth Israel Hospital, Lahey Clinic, The Wound Clinic, Mass Eye & Ear and caregivers Marie and Francise.
Jo-Jo was preceded in death by his Mother Marie “Sunny” Salami and his Uncle Joe and Aunt Muriel Salami.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Ginny, his Aunt Ann and cousins Marcia (and husband Alam) and Joe Jr. (and wife Elizabeth) as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and countless friends.
Calling hours for Jo-Jo will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 10 am until 12 noon with a service at 12 noon at the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home, 8 Spring Street, West Roxbury, MA. Burial will take place in the Spring.
Following the service, all are welcome at Al Wadi Restaurant, 1249 V.F.W. Parkway, West Roxbury, MA to share a mercy meal and memories of Jo-Jo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jo-Jo’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
