Joseph D. Shagoury

We are sad to announce the passing of Joseph D. Shagoury of West Roxbury, MA at the age of 97.

Joseph peacefully met the Lord on the morning of November 6th. He is survived by Mary L.Shagoury, his loving wife of 68 years. Additionally, he is survived by children, David J Shagoury of West Roxbury, Camille and Peter Zahka of Dedham and Valerie and Michael Khouri of Walpole. He is also survived by grandchildren Derek E. and Maria Khouri, Alexandra Z. Chuckran, Robert P. Zahka, Adam J. Khouri, Joseph D. Shagoury, Sophia M. Shagoury and great grandchild Johnny Chuckran, along with nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his two brothers: John and “baby” Nicky Shagoury.

Born in 1928 on Hudson street in Boston’s South Cove ( often referred to as “little Syria” ), to the late Deeb and Mary Shagoury,Nicholas G. he was a graduate of Boston Latin School, and subsequently attained his Bachelor and Graduate degrees from Northeastern University. A U.S. Army veteran, Joseph was proud of his service, and upon his return to civilian life, married Mary Laham in 1957.

Civic service was an important calling for Joseph, who was active in the Nicholas G. Beram Veterans Association; several Church organizations, including serving as President of the Church of St John of Damascus Executive Board; Wor. Master of Mt. Tabor Lodge in Boston; and other community groups. Joseph’s professional career as an engineer included tenures at both Sylvania Corp. and The Foxboro Company.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours at the Church of St John of Damascus 300 West St. in Dedham, MA Monday November 10th from 9 AM to 10:45 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 11 AM.

Joseph will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.
