Louise (Moran) Silva

November 25, 1942 — August 16, 2015

Louise (Moran) Silva of Newton and formerly of West Roxbury passed peacefully on Sunday, August 16 accompanied by her son and dear cousin Peg Curry. Her passing comes after a long struggle with complications from a stroke she suffered in May.

Louise dedicated the past 45 years to a career in education, spending the early part of her career teaching middle and high school students followed by a long tenure in higher education. In the last phase of her career she provided individualized support to college students with learning disabilities. She worked full-time as a Learning Specialist at Mount Ida College in Newton, where she was active until her medical issues began this spring.

In her personal time she enjoyed painting watercolor, attending theater performances and independent film. She also enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her first grandchild Bennett of whom she always had a picture handy to share. In her all-too-short time as a grandmother, she showed a vitality and pride that's hard to describe. We know Bennett will always remember and greatly miss his "Lolo."

Many nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and countless friends will miss her frequent "Louise-isms," her smile, wit and company. The number of calls, visits cards and letters are a testament to the rich social life she cultivated together with her late husband Walter.

Louise leaves her son Christian and daughter-in-law Alexandra of Melrose and their son Bennett.

She is preceded in death by her husband Walter Silva, her mother Louise Moran, brother the Rev James Moran and her father James Moran.

Louise's Funeral Mass was celebrated September 11, 2015 at St. Theresa of Avila Church, WEST ROXBURY. She was laid to rest with her beloved Walter at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Boston.

Donations in Louise's memory can me made to VSA Massachusetts an organization that uses art to advance the educational goals of differently abled students.
