Manuel J. Santos

Manuel J. Santos, of West Roxbury, formerly of Roslindale, passed away on January 25, 2010. He was 91 years old. Born in Provincetown, Massachusetts, Manuel was a United States Navy Veteran of WWII. As a young man, Manuel pulled the renowned Boston artist R.H. Ives Gammell from the ocean undertow. In gratitude, Gammell painted Manuel's portrait, a painting that remains in a private collection. Following his service in the Navy, Manuel worked as a self-employed painter and paper hanger. Manuel enjoyed many out door activities such as fishing, and camping with his family. He was also an amateur carpenter, an avid reader, and an attendee of Art and Craft shows. He also loved animals and passed his love of animals onto all of his children. Manuel was a former Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America in Roslindale. Manuel was the dear and devoted husband of Cecilia (Matusik) of West Roxbury. Loving father of Paul Santos of Gloucester, Sharon Mason of Gloucester, Deborah Santos of West Roxbury, Michael Santos of FL, Cheryl Hunt of West Roxbury, and Christina Emery of NH. Dear brother of Joseph Santos of Maine and the late Mary Smith. Manuel is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Manuel's Funeral Services will be private.
