Martin R. "Bob" Barter

September 12, 1942 — July 28, 2019

Martin R. “Bob” Barter of Dedham, formerly of Hyde Park and Boston’s South End, passed away on July 28, 2019. He was 76 years old.

Born and raised in Boston's South End, Bob always had a joke to make people smile. He was an avid fisherman, with his favorite spots being Castle Island in South Boston and Indian Ranch in Webster, on the waters of Lake Chargogagaugmanchaugagougchubunagungamaug.  He loved spending time with his family and considered himself a "millionaire" to be blessed with the family and friends that he had.

Bob was the longtime loving boyfriend of Dorothy Marley. Loving father of Arlene Donovan and her husband Thomas of Raynham, Mark Barter and his wife Darlene of Raynham, Glenn Smith of Boston, and Brian Smith of Boston. Cherished grandfather, “Papa,” of Annie Barter, Michelle Westgate, James Donovan and Carolyn Donovan and great grandfather of Jaina Westgate. Dear brother of the late Vivian Barter, Norma Noonan and Jackie Baxter.  He is also survived by his niece Melissa Dec of Taunton, as well as several other loving nieces, nephews and many friends.

Bob's Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa of Avila Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38140.
