Mary (Hamwey) Ahto of Dedham, formerly of West Roxbury passed away on April 25, 2026. She was 88 years old.
Mary was a life-long parishioner of The Church of St. John of Damascus and a longtime active member of the Virgin Mary Society, serving as their treasurer for years. Above all else, Mary was happiest around her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Mary was the dear and devoted wife of the late James Ahto. Loving mother of James Ahto III and his wife Susan of Raynham, Raymond Ahto of Plainville, Richard Ahto of Mansfield, and Marlene Marcelonis and her husband James of Norwood. Cherished grandmother, “Teta,” of Steven Ahto and his wife Camila, David Ahto, Jessica Marcelonis, Steven Marcelonis, and Marisa Marcelonis. Dear sister of Johanna Sakakini, Jacqueline Homsi, and John Hamwey. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Mary’s Funeral Service will be Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 11 a.m. at The Church of St. John of Damascus 300 west St. Dedham. Visitation in the Church beginning at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Church.
Mary will be laid to rest with her beloved James at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.
