Norma Mary (Sherman) Mulvey

June 11, 1934 — June 3, 2022

Norma Mary (Sherman) Mulvey, long time resident of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, in Boston MA, on June 3, 2022. She was 87 years old.

Born and raised in Buffalo NY, Norma met and married her husband Gerald in 1956, and together they raised their five children in North Syracuse.

Norma earned her BA in Education from Buffalo State Teacher’s College in 1954 and began a lengthy career in public education by teaching parenting classes in North Syracuse. Then, she had a long tenure as a Title I reading and math instructor in North Syracuse Central Schools, spanning over 20 years.

Norma was an avid reader and lifetime active member of the League of Women Voters. She was also member of St. Rose of Lima parish in North Syracuse for over 50 years. Following her retirement, Norma served many years as an Election Inspector Coordinator in the northern suburbs.  She also enjoyed traveling in Europe with family. What brought her the most joy was attending whatever athletic contests, dance recitals, school plays or music recitals any of her grandchildren were taking part in. She took an active role in encouraging their activities and was happiest surrounded by her family.

Norma was the loving spouse of the late Gerald J. Mulvey. She is survived by her children Timothy (Linda) of Fayetteville NY, Cathy of Syracuse NY, Betsy of Albany Ny, Ellen Lenoch (J.T.) of Roslindale and Jerry of St. John U.S.V.I. Norma was the cherished grandmother of Caitlin, Erin, Jeremiah, Thaddeus, Jonah, Elijah and Siobhan and great-grandmother (GiGi) of Lily Ann. Norma is also survived by nephew Raymond Zorn and numerous other nieces and nephews.
