Odette Martha (Shaker) Abdelnour

Odette M. (Shaker) Abdelnour, of West Roxbury, passed away on November 19, 2022. She was 90 years old.

A life-long parishioner of The Church of St. John of Damascus, Odette spent many years as a member of the Virgin Mary Society. She was called upon annually to bring her cooking skills to help prepare for the Church’s annual bazaar. She was an excellent cook, specializing in Arabic food, particularly betlawa and other delicious pastries.

Odette was married to the love of her life, Jim, for over 67 years. Over the years they enjoyed traveling the world, seeing islands in the Caribbean, an Alaskan cruise, and Las Vegas. She and Jim spent much of the last 30 years in the Florida Keys, where she loved to swim. An amazing wife and mother, Odette loved to take care of people, including her parents and in-laws in their later years. Raising her children, taking care of all that they needed, they enjoyed trips to Nantasket Beach and the Cape in the summers. She was an avid walker, always eager to get outside and go for a walk with her best friends. Above all else, Odette was happiest surrounded by her loving family.

Odette was the loving wife of James Abdelnour. Dear mother of Gail Abdelnour of West Roxbury, Deborah Carroway and her husband David of Florida and Michael Abdelnour and his wife Roslyn of Walpole. Cherished grandmother, “Taytay” of Michael David Carroway and Robert James Carroway. Dear sister of Agnes Medwar of Norwood and the late Joseph Shaker and Marie Shaker. Loving daughter of the late Very Rev. Abdullah Shaker and Violette (Ayoub). She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Odette’s Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at The Church of St. John of Damascus, 300 West St. Dedham. Visitation in the Church beginning at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Odette’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute or to the Church.

Interment will conclude services at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.
