Yassin Alanini, formerly of Syria, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Moufida Hana, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Born in Damascus, Syria, Yassin was the son of the late Salwa Nassif and Sajee Alanini. He spent many years in his beloved hometown of Maaret Sednaya before moving to Rhode Island in 2016.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children: Sajee and his wife Vianda Alanini, Salwa and her husband Moussa Hijazi, Elias and his wife Riham Abbas, Warde and her husband Talaat Ghassan, Zakieh and her husband Hanna Alsheikh, Najat and her husband John Khoury, Mary and her husband Fady Rowey and George and his wife Mary Nassif. He is also survived by his 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Yassin was known for his warmth, charisma, and an incredible sense of humor that could fill any space with joy. His ability to connect with people was unmatched, drawing others in with his captivating stories and infectious laughter. He had a way of making everyday moments unforgettable and the gift of making people feel seen, heard, and truly at home in his presence.

His deep connection to the land was evident in everything he did. Whether tending to the earth or preparing meals infused with love, Yassin found joy in providing for his family and welcoming others into his home. Just as he nurtured the land to sustain those he loved, he nurtured relationships, using food and laughter to bring people together, creating a home filled with warmth, generosity, and joy.

No evening was complete without the legendary backgammon matches that followed—full bellies giving way to fierce yet friendly competition. Yassin was a master of the game, playing with both skill and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. His passion for backgammon was infectious, turning each match into a lively event filled with laughter, playful banter, and camaraderie that often stretched late into the night.

His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, kindness, and storytelling will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His home will always be remembered as a place of warmth, generosity, and love—a space where everyone was welcome.
