Arthur Pittore Obituary

Arthur Joseph Pittore died peacefully surrounded by his three children on April 4th, 2024 at South Shore Hospital after an acute illness complicated by the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 80 years old.

Arthur was the son of the late Arthur and Concetta (Verillo) Pittore and survived by brother Daniel Pittore of North Reading, predeceased in death by sister Adeline Prisco as well as brothers Alfred, Peter, and Edward Pittore.  He was the loving and dedicated father of Andrea McManus and her husband Marc of Rockland, Arthur E. Pittore and his longtime partner Allison Lindsey of Raynham, and Tina Pittore of Woburn. Former husband and dear friend of Kathleen (Gallagher) Pittore of Weymouth. Cherished “Grampa,” of Madison and Anthony Pittore and Mackenzie and Colin McManus. Dear uncle to many nieces, nephews and loyal friend to his life-long “pals”.

Arthur was the youngest son of Italian immigrants who grew up in Jamaica Plain in an all-Irish neighborhood where he formed many lasting friendships along the way. He enjoyed bowling and was known as a skilled pool player in his day. He also held a love for music, specifically classic rock. In earlier years, Arthur was known to bring along his boombox everywhere he went to play his personal mixes recorded on cassette tapes. Eventually replaced with his iPad and Bluetooth speaker, one thing remained that no matter the occasion Arthur was never without his music. It brought him great joy and comfort throughout his life.

A man of faith, he was an active parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church where he was married and spent his early parenting years raising his young family. He enjoyed attending the children’s mass to hear the hymns sung with his kids participating in the church choir.

Arthur worked for the city of Boston as a Custodian and later retired after 20 years from the Conley School in Roslindale. He was praised and loved by both students and staff. In 2012, he was nominated and recognized as one of Boston’s top 10 City employees and was an honoree recipient of the Henry L. Shattuck Public Service Award.

A “Simple Kind of Man”, Arthur lived humbly, worked hard, and always had a smile on his face. He was appreciative of life and content in his daily routines, never complained or wanted for not. He looked forward to his two weeks off every summer where tradition led him to a cottage in Marshfield for over 40 years. Vacationing amongst friends, the cottage had an open-door welcoming family and friends alike to reunite every year. Here Arthur shared his love of food, trying to feed everyone who walked through the door.

Arthur also faithfully played his daily lottery “numbers game” hoping to earn him wealth though selflessly shared what little earnings gained when he “hit”.  Arthur never did earn abundance through wealth but rather lived with abundance of spirit who led by example radiating kindness, joy, and love; a true gem whose loyalties were put forth to anyone he’d meet.

Arthur was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2019,  four years after retirement. It was a devastating diagnosis, and he bravely accepted his fate. He was fortunate to spend most of his Alzheimer’s years at an assisted living where he was loved and cared for by so many, spending a lot of his time at “work” with the Activities department before later transitioning to a nursing home.

Alzheimer’s took a lot from Arthur during its progression but what remained as a saving grace was the kindness of his heart and the gentleness of his soul that has now been granted with eternal peace.
