George Kowal

George Kowal, of West Roxbury, formerly of Jamaica Plain, passed away on September 16, 2023. He was 97 years old.

Born in Germany, George was a tinkerer who loved to fix things. He loved his garden and spent many hours making it beautiful. George loved western movies and taking walks around the neighborhood. In years past, he enjoyed going to yard sales with his beloved Rosa and was happiest surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren.

George was the dear and devoted husband of the late Rosa. Loving father of RosieMarie Schoenhammer of Hof, Germany and her late husband Ernst, and the late Herbert Kowal and Elisabeth Gelormini. Cherished grandfather, “Opa,” of Marc Schoenhammer and his wife Elizabeth of Oxford, Carl R. Gelormini and his wife Cassandra of Falling Waters, WV, Stephen Gelormini and his partner Paul Bavuso of Newton and Christopher Gelormini of Worcester. Great-grandfather of Victoria. He is also survived by many other loving family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the calling hours on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home, 8 Spring St. (at the corner of Centre St.) WEST ROXBURY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in George’s memory may be made to the Deutsches Altenheim 2222 Centre St. West Roxbury, MA 02132.

George will be laid to rest with his beloved Rosa at Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham. Details of the graveside service will be posted to this site when they are finalized.
