John Jabbour Obituary

John G. Jabbour, longtime resident of Dedham, and formerly of West Roxbury, passed away on September 2, 2021. He was 93 years old.

John was born in the village of Bihaaboura, El Khoura Lebanon, one of ten children born to Latifa and Jabbour George. John was part of three sets of twins which run in his family. He had six brothers and three sisters.

He met his future wife, Mariam in 1955 while she was visiting Lebanon. They were married that year and moved to Boston’s South End, via Ellis Island. They had 5 children before moving to Dedham in 1961. John cared for Mariam until she passed in 2008.

John and Mariam were excellent providers for their young and growing family. John worked as a machinist for over 40 years. He was also known as the “Pizza Man” at the Pleasant Café in Roslindale because he made the best pizza east of the Mississippi from 1970 to 1978. He also worked at the Halfway Café for the next 25 years and later at Costco doing food demonstrations.

For many years the Jabbour Family would visit North Bamstead, NH, for summer vacations. John enjoyed canoeing, fishing and swimming with his children. They were able to take their children back to Lebanon to visit with their relatives a few times, the last coming in 1999.

John always had a joke and a smile for his friends, neighbors and loved ones. In his spare time, he enjoyed leading the dubke at haflis, playing horseshoes, volleyball, card games, bingo, chess and backgammon. Above all else he enjoyed being surrounded by his family.

Throughout his life, John was very dedicated to the Orthodox Church. He served as an altar boy at St. George Church in his village and continued as an usher into adulthood, receiving an award for Meritorious Service to the Church.

John was the dear and devoted husband of the late Mariam (Kenaan). Loving father of James Jabbour and his wife Andrea Gabriel Jabbour of Lexington, Brian Jabbour and his wife Gail of Franklin, Bruce Jabbour of NV, Janine Joyal and her husband Jonathan of Falmouth, and Danielle Jabbour of West Roxbury. Dear father-in-law of the late Dino Giancola. Cherished grandfather, “Gidoo” of 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by several brothers and sisters in Lebanon. John is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
