John "Jack" A. Hanna Jr.

John A. "Jack" Hanna of Milton MA, formerly of Needham and West Roxbury MA, passed away surrounded by his family on February 25, 2021.  He was 79 years old.

Jack was the dear and devoted husband of Joyce (Nader) Hanna.  Beloved father of Stephen Hanna and his wife Kimberly of Ridgefield, CT; Daniel Hanna and his wife Stephanie of Medfield, MA; Gregory Hanna and his wife Erin of Waltham, MA.  Dear grandfather "Jiddi" of Nick, Alex, Will, Owen, Cameron, and Connor.  Loving brother of Julie and Faith Hanna, both of West Roxbury, MA. Jack is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins in MA, NJ and CA.

Jack was a proud graduate of Roxbury Latin High School of West Roxbury, MA and proceeded to attain degrees from Tufts University, Yale University, and Boston University.  After beginning a successful career in engineering, he transferred to the world of finance and progressed to be the Chief Financial Officer of Alpha Industries in Woburn, MA. 

His global travels in his 20s full of skiing and other adventures were followed by the meeting of the love of his life, Joyce.  His devotion to Joyce and his family was made evident in his enjoyment of raising his three sons and in his example of his incredible work ethic and discipline, selfless lifestyle and love for skiing, traveling, swimming, Ted Williams and the Boston Red Sox.

Jack’s passion was also evident in his enjoyment and commitment to the Orthodox church.  His decades of involvement included serving as National President of the Antiochian Orthodox Church youth organization (SOYO) where he was instrumental in implementing many fundamental initiatives that allowed the youth ministry to grow dramatically.

Although Parkinson’s Disease slowed Jack down in recent years, he was determined to continue with what was most important to him: attending his families’ ballgames, graduations and celebrations and most recently celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary.

Visiting hour is Tuesday, March 2, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 55 Emmonsdale Rd., West Roxbury, MA.  Funeral Service at St. George at 12:00 p.m.

Visitors are required to follow all COVID protocols:  masks, social distancing, limited capacity and limited time inside the Church.

Jack will be laid to rest at The Gardens Cemetery in West Roxbury.
