Kevin M. Joyce

Kevin Michael Joyce, 86, of West Roxbury, MA passed away on April 16, 2023. After several months of declining health, Kevin died comfortably and peacefully with his family by his side.  

Born in Boston, Kevin was raised on McKone Street in Neponset. He was of one of six brothers, and the son of the late Patrick Joyce and Ann Joyce. 

Kevin will be long remembered and adored by his children, Ellenmarie Joyce, Kevin P. Joyce, Esq, his daughter-in-law, Michele Joyce, his daughter Michelle Delamere, his son-in-law, Michael Delamere, and his six cherished grandchildren, Parker Joyce, Michaela Joyce, Alexis Joyce, Shane Delamere, Kaylie Delamere and Jake Delamere. Kevin also leaves behind his two youngest brothers, Edward Joyce, and his long-time companion, Marjorie Lievi, Robert Joyce, his loving sister-in-laws, Jean Joyce, Helen Joyce, and Claire Hogarty, his loving companion, Anne Power, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Kevin graduated from Dorchester High School in 1956 and proudly worked at Boston Edison Company for over 35 years. While he fondly recalled great memories and time spent with the many friends he made at BECO, and he was very proud of his years on the BECO Men’s softball team as the team’s only LEFTY pitcher, he is eternally grateful for meeting the love of his life, Joanne Hogarty from Boynton Street, Jamaica Plain, who also worked at BECO. 

Kevin and Joanne were married at Holy Name Church in 1964, settled in West Roxbury, and were married for 39 years, before Joanne’s sudden death in 2004. They enjoyed many years as members of Holy Name Parish, the Irish Cultural Center, and the County Roscommon Association of Boston. Kevin was also an active and proud member of the Boston Lodge of Elks #10 in West Roxbury where he had many friends.  

Kevin enjoyed all types of sports and instilled the same in his children.  He coached youth hockey, youth soccer, and was even known to attend more than an occasional swim-meet or a Feis to support his daughters.  Kevin made a point to watch his grandchildren’s sporting and school events as much as possible. 

Kevin made sure his family had a life filled with love, laughter, music, and song. Known as “Papa Riley”, he will be remembered for his quick wit, easy laugh, kindness, and his devotion to his loved ones and friends. His humor and love to sing and to dance stayed with him right up until his final hours.

The Joyce Family would like to thank the incredible team at Benchmark Senior Living on Clapboardtree Street in Norwood, MA who cared for Kevin with dignity and compassion during his last difficult months.  

Visiting Hours will be held Thursday, April 20th from 5-8pm at Kfoury and Keefe Funeral Home, 8 Spring Street, West Roxbury, MA. A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, April 21 at 10:00 am at Holy Name Church, West Roxbury MA. Relatives and friends invited.
