Obituary

Peter Katsigianis, Jr. was born on May 29, 1951 to Rita (Devoe) and Peter Katsigianis, Sr. in the South End of Boston. The family subsequently moved to Roslindale and then settled in West Roxbury. Their home in the Grove, a very unique West Roxbury neighborhood of winding dirt roads and one of a kind homes, was probably where he spent the happiest time of his young life. His older twin sisters, Karol and Kristina, adored their younger brother and treated him like a prince from the day he was born.

He graduated Boston English High and then attended Boston State College, transferring to the University of Massachusetts, Boston majoring in English and Political Science. At UMass, he met his future wife, Mary Famulari. The couple married in 1983, moving to Wrentham where they spent their lives together, raising their dogs and cats, being the best of friends. They celebrated their 40 th wedding anniversary on July 2nd by renewing their wedding vows.

His career spanned 48 years at Stop & Shop where he was considered one of the hardest workers ever to set foot there, while also entertaining co-workers with a sharp wit and devilish sense of humor. However, this was not his life’s true calling. He did the job, worked the hours, and devoted his entire life to the organization, but his true love was Reading. He read books of all sorts, Literature, Non-Fiction, Biographies, Essays, whatever sparked his imagination. The walls in his home, covered with bookshelves, his happiest times were spent browsing bookstore shelves, purchasing “find” and carrying it to the closest café to enjoy with a cup of Earl Grey tea.

He and Mary also loved going to see films at local art houses like Orson Welles, Coolidge Corner, Avon, and Dedham Cinemas, just to name a few. They also enjoyed travelling
to Paris, London, the South of Spain, as well as many trips to Florida and the Caribbean. There were also the weekend getaways to NYC, for plays and performances, and of course checking out the Strand Book Shop. He worked hard, and he played hard with great style!

A devoted son, caring brother who donated a kidney to his sister, Kristina, loyal UFCW 1145 co-worker and a loving husband, No one can say he was anything less than a fine, noble, man. By all who knew him, he was loved. And THAT is the highest achievement any of us can aspire to.
