Rita Dorsheimer Obituary

Rita L. Dorsheimer 77 of Dedham, passed away suddenly on July 29, 2022.

She was the cherished daughter of Florence “Evelyn” Dorsheimer and the late John D. Dorsheimer. Beloved sister of Jack and his wife Mary of Millis, Diane Haase-Leiden and her husband  Steve of Norwood, James and his wife Kim of Colorado and Lisa Procaccini and her husband Gary of Walpole. Rita was predeceased by her loving brother, David. Rita was adored by her nieces and nephews, many cousins and countless friends.

A lifelong Riverdale resident, Rita experienced a wonderful childhood growing up near Volks farm sledding, skating, walking the fields, swimming at the Willows with friends and fishing and boating on the Charles.

After graduating from Dedham High School  in 1962, Rita started work at Union Carbide in Needham as a sales rep where she made many life-long friends. She also worked for Beatrice Foods and the Air National Guard, receiving many civilian awards until her retirement.

Rita loved vintage cars. Her first was a VW Beetle and her absolute favorite was her 1961 Corvette. She could easily be spotted cruising in her ‘69 Camaro with the “RBABE” license plate. She also loved the ocean and spending time on the outer Cape frequenting the National Seashore beaches and favorite spots like the Beachcomber and PJ’s.

Rita was a kind and generous person. When you entered her kitchen you were greeted with a cup of coffee, a homemade dessert,  plenty of laughs and stories of old Riverdale lore. You couldn’t help leaving with a smile and one of her handmade monkey fist keychains.

The ultimate secretary, Rita was rarely without a steno notebook and a pen jotting down her lists for the day. The handwritten note is a forgotten art but not for Rita. Her table was always filled with Christmas and birthday cards to be sent or a heartfelt sympathy message. She took great care to personally connect in that special way.

A loyal daughter, Rita was the primary caregiver to her mother these past several years making it easier for Mom to remain in her home as long as possible.

Rita was a true animal whisperer. Her gentle nature was apparent as all animals were drawn to her. Along with her loving family and friends, Rita leaves behind her two cats, her “boys”, Dusty and Opie.
