Selma Mary (Mabardi) Winstanley of Arlington passed away on October 29, 2021. She was 84 years old.
Selma was proud of her Syrian ancestry and loved St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church where she was a life-long member and also was a proud Life Member of the Order of St. Ignatius of Antioch. She taught Sunday School for years and was a member of the Women’s Club for over sixty years where she worked side-by-side with her dear friends.
While raising her family, Selma returned to school to become a hairdresser, a career she enjoyed. Later in life, she worked for the Town of Arlington as a switchboard operator. She loved her job and those she worked with. She retired at the age of 81.
Selma was the beloved daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Homsy) Mabardi. Dear and devoted wife of the late Joseph H. Winstanley. Loving mother of Atty. Mary Winstanley O’Connor of Arlington, Susan Gonchar and her husband Peter of Somerville, Karen Winstanley Noonan of Arlington, Joseph P. Winstanley and his wife Kim of Arlington, and the late Paul Winstanley. Beloved grandmother “Tata” of Christopher O’Connor, Amanda Donahue, Peter Gonchar, Nicholas Gonchar, Jillian Winstanley, Jessica Winstanley, Joseph Noonan, and Matthew Noonan. Dear sister of the late Atty. Mitchell Mabardi and his late wife Mary, and the late Dr. Edward Mabardi and his wife Zahie of Belmont. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Selma’s Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church 8 Inman St. Cambridge. Visiting hours in the Church Monday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Per Cambridge health ordinance, masks are required in the Church.
Selma will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.
